4th CEFL Conference: The Future of Family Property in Europe

It is our great pleasure to invite you to the fourth conference of the Commission on European Family Law at the University of Cambridge from 8th - 10th April 2010. Previous conferences of the CEFL took place in Utrecht (2002 and 2004) and Oslo (2007). The conference aims to enhance the exchange of ideas and arguments about comparative and international family law in Europe. Early career researchers will be provided with the opportunity to present a paper during the conference. Breaking News

On the 25th April 2008, the Dutch Attorney General referred to the CEFLs Principles Regarding Parental Responsibilities. Click here for a link to the decision (in Dutch).

Portugal is to reform its divorce law. The reform shows striking similarities to both sets of CEFL Principles. For further information read the article of G. de Oliveira (2008) 18 FamRZ.


CEFLs Aims

The CEFL was established on the 1st September 2001 and has, as its main objective the launching of a pioneering theoretical and practical exercise in relation to the harmonisation of family law in Europe. This will be achieved by:


The major benefit to be expected by the establishment of this Commission is the creation of a set of Principles of European Family Law that are thought to be most suitable for the harmonisation of family law within Europe.
